Storm Shelter Durability & Tornado Survival Calculator
Simulate wind shear loads, vortex impact, and material thresholds to ensure your base survives the chaos storms of Sorana.
Stable with Regular Maintenance 🛡️
Timber walls hold against peripheral Tier 2 winds. To withstand a direct tornado hit, upgrade ground foundations to Corrupted Stone and add diagonal roof bracing.

How Wind Shear & Physics Are Calculated
In Stormforge, buildings are subject to directional wind turbulence and kinetic uplift forces. When a tornado forms, it emits concentric damage bands:
- Direct Hit (0m Epicenter): Maximum rotational shear. Multiplies damage by 3.2x and applies vertical uplift to unanchored roofs.
- Peripheral Vortex (15m - 30m): Standard storm pressure. Deals continuous damage over time to exposed exterior wall joints.
- Outer Wind Shear (>50m away): Minor turbulence (approx. 40% load), easily withstood by basic timber structures.
Building Materials Breakdown
Thatch & Timber (Tiers 1 & 2)
Good for emergency day 1 survival. Vulnerable to direct hits from Tier 2 hunting tempests. Requires continuous mallet repairs.
Hardwood & Corrupted Stone (Tiers 3 & 4)
High-density materials capable of weathering Category 2 and 3 tornadoes. Recommended for permanent crafting hubs and 8-player co-op fortresses.
Architectural Fortification Rules
- Always build solid stone foundation blocks directly into natural bedrock or terrain.
- Use sloped or aerodynamic triangular roofs rather than flat wide surfaces to deflect downward wind pressure.
- Equip your Builder Mallet on your hotbar prior to storm onset so you can repair stressed joints from inside the safety of the base.
